David joined politicians from all parties at an event hosted by the BUAV for its campaign to lift the secrecy on animal testing in the UK.
The UK is one of the largest users of animals in experiments but current legislation makes it one of the most secretive in Europe.
The BUAV is calling for a change in the law to allow people to find out what is happening to animals and why. It is not interested in finding out personal or commercially sensitive information, but thinks the public has a right to know what is happening on their behalf.
Guests at the event, held in the House of Commons, heard from expert speakers pledging their support for the campaign.
David said, ‘I do everything I can to improve animal welfare and have for a long time worked with BUAV and their fight to combat animal testing. I am very pleased to support them in this campaign.’
Michelle Thew, Chief Executive of the BUAV said, “I’m delighted that David Drew MP has lent his support to our campaign. All sides of the animal testing debate agree that an informed discussion is the right way forward, and until we have more openness this cannot take place.”
