The public meetings that followed the Up For Debate survey have now finished. Over 250 people have directly engaged with the detailed and often lively discussions.

It has been wonderful to hear to arguments for and against all of the questions. The meetings have been an opportunity to have a constructive debate looking at what works in the current system, and how we can change what doesn’t.

I am very excited to announce a further public meeting on the 24th October. This will be a panel discussion where we put the verdicts of the people of Stroud before a panel of experts.

We have already secured part of our formidable panel. The first is to be Professor Peter Hennessy, who is one of the foremost academics on British government and its constitution. He is also an alumni of Marling School! Also confirmed is Peter Facey who is the founding director of Unlock Democracy, one of the most respected campaign groups for democratic reform.

The meeting will seek to put the results of the survey and our work in schools to the panel and ask for their views, as well as examining what the next steps to reform should be.

The meeting will be held on Saturday 24th October at 3pm in new lecture theatre at the Downfield Sixth Form Centre in Stroud. I hope that as many people as possible will come along.
