Things I can do as your MP

You are here: Home / Surgeries / Things I can do as your MP

My role as MP is to represent all of the people in my constituency with all the things that relate to Parliament and Central Government.

I try to do everything I can to help constituents, but there are things that I can't help with.

If I can't help I may be able to refer on to someone who can help.

Things I can help with...

Tax problems involving the Inland Revenue and Customs and Excise Departments.

Problems dealt with by the Department of Health such as hospitals and the National Health Service.

Problems dealt with by the Department of Work and Pensions such as benefits, pensions and national insurance.

Problems dealt with by the Home Office such as immigration.

Problems dealt with by the Department of Children, Schools and families such as school closures and grants.
If the problem does not involve Central Government I may be able to do the following...

Send a letter from my office to the relevant department or official who may be able to provide a solution.

I can write or see the Minister involved.

If there has been a maladministration, I may be able to take your case to the Ombudsman.

In some cases I may be able to raise the issue in the House if by making the matter public it will be of benefit to everyone.

Things I can't help with ...

Planning applications; although help can be given by your District Councillor. Use the District Council website www.stroud.gov.uk for contact names.

Other useful sources of help...

The Citizens Advice Bureau will give advice on the types of benefits individual's are entitled to.

District Councillors are elected to take up issues like housing, recycling, planning and council tax.

County Councillors can help with social services, school issues and roads.  To find out who your councillors are, see http://www.stroud.gov.uk/whereilive/index.asp  or www.writetothem.com.
