Local News / David praises organisers of the Ossie Stephens Tribute Concert organised by Stroud Brass Band Festival
‘Can I congratulate all those responsible for organising the recent Ossie Stephens Tribute Concert at the Sub Rooms. The Concert that recreated one of 40 years ago which then as now featured both Chalford and Nailsworth bands. The fact that the Subs was packed for this occasion says a great deal about the folk of the Stroud District who love their music and their brass bands in particular.
This makes the ending of the Stroud Brass Band Festival all the harder to bear. As I said in the accompanying programme for the event, 'The SBBF has quite simply put Stroud on the map. It is with great sadness that this is the final year but we must look back with pride at what the vision of Ossie Stephens initiated and what all the committee members now and in the past have made possible.'
Ossie was a very special man, and there was no more fitting occasion to bear witness to this than at this very special commemoration.
I would also like to pay due credit to Brendan Conboy on another very successful Undiscovered Youth Talent Contest the night before in the Subs. Though I was not able to stay for the whole of the proceedings the quality of what I saw demonstrated the very special talents we have locally and I say well done to all those young people that took part and wish them well in their future performances.’
