Environment and Climate Change

With permission, Mr Speaker, I would like to make a statement about the UK Low Carbon Transition Plan. All of us in this House know the gravity of the challenge that climate change poses. We know that to rise to the challenge will mean comprehensive changes in our economy and our society.

On the 2nd July David attended an Operation Noah rally to show his support for the need to tackle climate change. Operation Noah is a Christian climate change campaign. They held a rally in central London to highlight the need for governments to tackle the threat of climate change at a crucial United Nations Summit in Copenhagen in December.

David wants the Government to pass new legislation that would boost the roll out of small scale renewable energy systems such as wind and water turbines and solar panels.

Many of you have sent me campaign cards 'Cut the Carbon'. I try to respond to all of the cards that I am sent but unfortunately on a recent card from Christian Aid there was no opportunity for people to write their address - only their name.
